1. Attempt any ten parts :
(a) What is difference between a RAM and ROM ?
(b) What is the difference between Machine Language and Assembly Language ?
(c) Differentiate between RISC and CISC.
(d) Whay 2's complement method is used for representation of negative numbers ?
(e) Differentiate between Programmed I/O and I/O mapped I/O.
(f) Differentiate between Interpreter and Compiler.
(g) What do you understand by Interleaved DMA ?
(h) What is a Stack ? List its applications.
(i) How pipeline helps in a faster executionof an Instruction ?
(j) List various methods of data transfer.
(k) Differentiate between Push operation and POP operation in a stack.
(l) What is Multiprogramming ?

Section-B Marks:5 Each

2. Draw the block diagram of a computer and explain the function of each block.
3. Determine the methods to handle branches in a pipeline instruction execution unit.
4. What are the essential components of a multiprogramming system ? Explain.
5. Write an algrothim for multiplication of two unsigned numbers using shift and add method.
6. Write short notes on the following :
(a) Array Processor
(b) Memory Management Techniques.
7. What are the characteristics of a Good Instruction Format ?

Section-C Marks : 10 Each

8. Explain the instruction cycle, Machine cycle Intrupt cycle and Execute cycle.
9. Discuss various steps in the design of a control unit.
10. Design a microprogrammed based processor to implement the division Algrothim.
11. What is a DMA scheme of Data Transfer ? Discuss its operating principle. What is a brust mode of data transfer and cycle stealing mode of data transfer ?
